crit-IQUE

The catastrophe project is already finish and i'm really amazed with the outcomes ,i spent 12 weeks researching and developing the project ,looking at earthquakes all around the world ,designers like Aitor Throup ,Hussein C halayan were my main source of inspiration.
at the beginning of the project i was lost but looking at their work and collections i found my way into the project.
Aitor Throup is a great deisgner ,he takes personal problems and matters and reflect them through his work ,just like "legs" which set the mood for my project.
aitor's work is very expressif ,he defines himself through his art and this is what i aspire to be like.
i look back at my project and i see a lot of things that i could made differently ,i know that i've worked hard but it's not good enough sometimes ,it takes a lot more than hard work to create something beautiful.
i feel like i have not managed to satisfy myself and i've not put myself totally into the project .
i produced better outcomes in my hair project but like they say "we learn from our mistakes" and i'm ready to take on what coming next to me ,i'm ready for the next project which i heard is going to be awesome and i cannot wait for it.

TEMPLATES

SketchBOOK

my fashion sketchbook is a diary that i keep with me at all time,it sort of become a part of me so when i finish a project and i don't have a sketchbook to complete i feel like there's something missing.
For my catastrophe project ,at the beginning i didn't know what directions to take ,i was a little bit lost but i quickly found my ground ,i started imagining an apocalypse scenario and i felt inspired ,everything started to make sense and i was looking at earthquakes in china ,Haiti ,Chile and then utility wear and designers like aito throup,Hussein chalayan,Boris bidjan saberi had a massive influence on my project because of their style and vision, then i started looking at destruction,i started burning fabrics and materials and as moved on ,i started to see my ideas coming to life by sketching and developing drawings and now I'm happy with what my sketchbook looks like ,it defines me and my ideas so I'm pleased with the results.

TEXTILE TECHNIQUES

for this project textile techniques were very important because i had to develop a textile piece for my garment.
i looked at embellishment with buttons, expandex, image making, burning fabrics, applique ,reverse applique and quilting.
i enjoyed learning and developing new technique ,i tried to adapt every technique i learned to my designs and some did work when others didn't but at the end i decided to use reverse applique and patchwork onto my garment. It represent the struggle, the dirt ,make mend and do .

NEGLECT...

my garment is has three parts ,my protective coat ,my neck piece and the cut-out legging.
the idea behind the legging is that the earthquake strikes and a few months passed ,everyone is trying to survive the way they can ,so looking good is the least of everyone priority ,and i have been wearing the same legging for three months which means it suffered neglect and the result is the burned holes in the legging...

DID ANYONE SAID COLD...???

Cold and depressed i don't think so,at least not this year with Viktor and Rolf fall collection,it's crazy beautiful and the idea behind the collection is there on the catwalk ,what else can you ask for and in a way the collection could have been an inspiration for my Catastrophe project which was based on earthquakes. The coats in the collection are very strong...

GRACE JONES by Chris Levine : Chris Levine

GRACE JONES by Chris Levine : Chris Levine
A unique collaboration between icon, Grace Jones, and groundbreaking light artist, Chris Levine, is to be shown to the public for the first time at The Vinyl Factory Gallery in Poland Street, London. These sensational portraits will go on show from 30th April until 15th May 2010.

Chris Levine is a unique artist with a rare sensibility for the use of light. Renowned for his historic 3D and still images of HRH Queen Elizabeth II, he has now gone on to create a series of stunning 3D portraits of legend Grace Jones. Stillness at the Speed of Light will showcase the extraordinary alchemy between this iconic figure and the progressive artist.

A highlight of the exhibition will be a statement; a 3D image of Grace with her eyes shut, one of several ethereal, sensory portraits some of which are lit by laser. Grace’s great gift in identifying zeitgeist artists such as Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, Jean Paul Goude and Eiko Ishioka, continues with this new and exciting collaboration with Chris Levine, whilst demonstrating an evolution in portraiture.

ELECTION DILEMMA

It's already been three years since Gordon Brown became Uk's prime minister in May 2007and I can't believe that I'm not fifteen anymore but anyway ,it's been almost months since we started hearing about Mps expenses then the general elections then Nick Clegg ,well at least I've only heard about him a few months ago ,the truth is this all entertaining but as a new elector ,it's confusing for me to make up my mind about who to trust .
Thinking of trust someone told me that politicians don't solve problems they just misplace them and i thought that was funny but then again what do i know?
Growing up ,i learned a lot about voting,I was exited about when I'll be able to vote and here i am now ,twisted between three men who keep messing my head every time i think i have made a decision about the election ,meanwhile, there is no way i won't be taking part because a civil right and duty for my own future so when i stand in that box tomorrow heaven help me make a decision and may the Best leader win...

Drawing Life.....

Going to drawing lesson after a 3h30 of textile is a bit annoying but when the lesson start and I get into it with angle finding, proportions and mark making I really feel like my time is not wasted because i learn a lot in these sessions .
so i hope i have the strenght to keep going ...

Yay me!!

i'm so relieve that i have managed to finish pattern cutting for my garment today ,i mean i was worried that i wouldn't finish on time and which means i would have been behind but thank heaven i'm on my way to finish next friday ,if i do so then it'll be a great achievement because i never been able to finish a garment on deadline and i'm really going to push hard to achieve it this time .

Hussein the artist...

My Catastrophe project has really been a challenge for me because creating a utility wear for a fantasy world destroyed by earthquakes where there is no more gravity ,no more family or any sense of human behaviour wasn't an easy task ,but looking at designers like Hussein Chalayan who has created pieces of art work and amazing catwalk pieces i have realliy been inspired and knowing that there'll always be people that will lead and shape up the way for us the new generation help me get through all the challenges that comes in my way.his collections really inspire me because they are so structured and very much protective,...thank you CHALAYAN

Bringing 50s back...

Prada went back in the 50s to bring us beautiful prints ,i mean everyone has been doing floral prints and i wasn't really attracted to them,i couldn't really find anything that wow me until Prada came out with thi new 50s inspired print,Hallelujah!! my prayers were answered now there's more to this spring summer than just endless rain...

True genuis never DIES...

since fashion "bad boy" Lee Mcqueen died in february this year evryone tried to pay tribute to him in different ways and now it's the turn of journalist Kristin Knox to remind us how amazing the designer was.
The book is a rememder and safekeeping showcasing the dramatic and spectacular work of the gifted designer.
the book tells the story of his career from drawing on walls as a child in London East End to the high flying catwalks of Paris in such a way where the designer's work speaks for itself.
The book is out the 7th May from all major booksellers ...

LBD

there's always a beginning to everything and my fashion journey also started somewhere ,my first fashion project was to design and make and LBD dress inspired by the 60s ,Oh yeah the sixties ,the mods and the rockers ,biba and the mini dress.
the project was a six weeks project which also included a textile project.
i really enjoyed it and looking back at it ,i really see how much i've grown in a year ,how much i have learned and I'm really pleased with where i am right now but the journey continue and there is a lot to achieve and to prove but for now I'm concentrating on finishing my CATASTROPHE project.

INSPIRE ME ...INSPIRE ME

Catastrophe,I automatically thought of Bidjan Saberi's fall 2010 collection,it's totally multifunctional and it's menswear which makes it all perfect to me,the inspiration comes from the idea behind the collection ,i mean the neck pieces say armour ,protection and the cut and all.
The coats ,the drappings and the fabrics are very much warm so the whole idea is ideal for my project .....
